Part 1: AI as Your Trip-Planning Assistant

Travel planning is fun… until it turns into 28 open tabs, conflicting advice, and the feeling that you’re missing something important. This is where AI can be a game-changer. Not because it replaces your judgment—but because it helps you get organized fast.

Think of AI like a planning assistant that can take your ideas and turn them into structure. You can use it to narrow down destinations based on weather, budget, and vibe. You can ask for a “first draft” itinerary. You can get a packing list, a timeline, and a checklist. And you can do it in minutes instead of hours.

Here are a few ways I use AI at the very start of planning:

  • Choose the best destination for your dates (weather + season)

  • Compare options (walkability, cost, ease)

  • Build a rough itinerary so the trip feels real

  • Identify what you need to book early vs what can wait

The biggest benefit? AI helps you move from “dreaming” to “decision-making.” It gives you a framework to begin. And once you have a plan, it’s easier to refine it into something that could actually happen.

Our next post in this series will be how to write prompts to get the results you want.

For this post, try this prompt.

“Help me plan a trip to [destination] for [X days] in [month]. I like a [relaxed/moderate] pace and care most about [3 interests]. Give me a simple overview: best area to stay, a day-by-day outline, and anything I should book in advance.”
