If you’ve ever landed after a long flight feeling dehydrated, disoriented, and vaguely feral… same. Over the years, I’ve learned that a few small essentials can be the difference between “never again” and “okay, I can do this.”

Here are the 8 things I always travel with:

1. A portable charger

I always pack a portable charger (mine is 20,000 mAh, but I recommend at least 10,000) and it lasts for days. I prefer one that can charge multiple devices at the same time. When I was hiking Kilimanjaro, I used it to charge my phone, my camera batteries and my watch at once. It also comes in handy once you arrive—especially if you don’t have reliable access to outlets right away.

2. An eye mask

An eye mask is a must for me. It makes it so much easier to rest, especially when there’s ambient light from cabin lights or other people’s screens.

3. Noise-cancelling headphones + a Bluetooth adapter

I love my Bose wireless headphones—they block out noise when I’m trying to sleep and make the whole flight feel calmer. I also bring a Bluetooth adapter so I can keep them wireless while still connecting to the in-seat entertainment system.

4. Dark, comfortable clothes

Comfort is key on a long flight, and what counts as “comfortable” is totally personal. My goal is something I can sit in for hours, but that still holds its shape so I feel presentable when I land. I also stick to dark colors because tight spaces + long flights often lead to spills.

5. Layers

I always bring an extra layer—whether that’s a scarf, a wrap, a hoodie, or a cardigan. Planes can be freezing, but they can also be oddly warm, so I make sure my base layer is something I’d be comfortable wearing on its own too.

6. A USB-C to USB adapter

Most devices are USB-C now, but airports, planes, and random charging stations can be unpredictable. This little adapter has saved me more times than I can count.

7. A water bottle

Those tiny cups of water are never enough for me on a long flight. I bring my own water bottle so I can stay hydrated throughout the flight without waiting for drink service.

8. A neck pillow

I always bring a neck pillow—even though I’m still searching for the perfect one. I’ve tried several, and none have been exactly right, but I’m far more uncomfortable without one than with one that’s not ideal. If you have a neck pillow you love, please tell me—I’m taking recommendations.

What is on your list? Do you have a favorite neck-pillow?
